Artist Statement

I explore the monumental and the whimsical in relation with the ocean and creatures within it. Through the creation of multi-media sculptures, I work to invite viewers to engage with their own imagination. With my work, I want to share the joy and curiosity that is sparked within myself when researching and exploring the ocean. Human interactions with the ocean is something that I explore in my work. Plastic pollution and species extinctions are themes that can be seen within my work. I emphasize the materiality of the sculpture medium to create unique pieces that play with the everyday object as well as craft materials. A fundamental premise in my work is repurposed materials such as fabric, plastic, and beads. When working, I allow the materials to be seen as what they once were, as well as what they have become when combined in this new way.
